AWS Free Tier: 4 Must Read Information for Beginners

All of us are in love with freebies. Right? What about trying AWS services free of charge? You can try out AWS services free of cost within a given usage limit. The AWS free tier is designed to offer hands-on experience of some AWS services.

AWS Free Tier Eligibility

You can use the AWS Free Tier after you sign up for AWS account.

As soon as you create an AWS account, you get signed up for Free.

Your eligibility to use AWS free services is for 12 months.

As soon as this period is over, AWS starts charging at regular rates.

If you do not want to be charged, you must keep the usage below AWS Free Tier limits. You can set up an alarm so that you do not incur charges by exceeding the usage limit.

You can select Bills on the console’s navigation pane after you create your AWS account. Though you are not charged in the first 12 months, you can check out on the bill for each month from the Date drop down list.

If you create AWS account through AWS Organisations, all member accounts are eligible for the Free Tier.

When you are no longer eligible for free service, that is, your one year free service is about to expire, you will receive a notification on the same email address you used while signing up for the account.

If you want to continue using the services, clean the resources you do not need so that you do not end up paying for a service you do not require.

To stop using AWS, you can close your account after you receive the email notification.

AWS Free Tier Offers

Trial: This is a short-term offer beginning from the data you choose to activate the service.

After the expiry of the trial period, you are charged at regular rates.

12 Months Free: After you sign up, this offer allows limited usage for 12 months.

Once again, after you use this service for one year or exceed the usage limit, you are charged at standard rates.

Always Free: Yes, you can access AWS free of cost always as well. This offer is available to all AWS customers. It does not expire after 12 months.

Things to Remember while You Use AWS

You need to remember the following pointers while you use AWS Free Tier:

  • All services are not covered by the AWS
  • All free usage is not a part of the AWS Free Tier
  • AWS Free Tier does not restrict access only to free services.

Close AWS Account

Only the user can close AWS account.

AWS will never close your account after your 12 months free service period expires.
