With Edge, Microsoft is competing with the biggies like Firefox and Chrome.
Though it is still not good as the top browsers, it is showing a great potential with its multifarious features and customisation options.
Built to offer a simple interface with all the significant aspects well in sight, it comes with an array of advanced options too.
If you are a Microsoft Edge user, here are a few tips and tricks you can make use of.
Stop the Videos from Playing Automatically
You can stop the autoplay video banner advertisements and other videos from playing on the webpage. To stop them from playing automatically, complete the following steps:
- Click the address bar to display the site information icon.
- Click the Media autoplay settings from the Website permissions.
- To see the changes, refresh the page.
Import Browser Data
Well, we understand the trouble if you have to search everything right from scratch.
Instead of starting everything right from scratch, wouldn’t it be wonderful to import bookmarks, history and other information from your old browser?
Yes, Microsoft allows to import data from your existing browser.
To import data from the previous browser, complete the following steps:
- Go to Microsoft Edge Settings.
- Click Profiles > Import Browser Data.
- Select the browser from where you want to import data, Microsoft Edge profile and the list of items you want to import from the browser.
- You can import your favourites, the saved passwords, payment information, addresses, open tabs, extensions, etc.
Start Using the Chrome Web Store
Do you love using the Chrome extensions?
You can use all Chrome extensions with Microsoft Edge.
As Edge and Chrome are built using the same web rendering engine, you can install the extensions from Chrome web store as well!
Simply go to the Chrome web store and then download the requisite extensions.
Improve Focus while You Browse
If you are browsing a particular page in reading view, it is easy to narrow down focus of content by highlighting a few lines.
To highlight one, three or five lines, complete the following steps:
- Go to the article or web page you want to go through.
- To enable the reading view, on the address bar, click the book icon.
- Click the page.
- Click Learning tools > Reading Preferences.
- Turn on Line focus.
- Select the number of lines you want to highlight.
Opt for Dark Themes
Mac OS and Windows 10 integrate a dark theme.
Microsoft implements the same with Edge browser.
Microsoft Edge supports both the light and dark themes.
To use a theme, complete the following steps:
- Go to Settings > Appearance > Theme.
- Select light or dark theme from System default.
Switch between User Profiles
If you switch between the user profiles regularly, this will prove a great time saver!
You need not use the incognito or anonymous browsing mode during demos.
Just use a profile remembering the browsing history.
You can also synchronise it across devices.
You can add a profile to Edge on the basis of Azure AD credentials or Microsoft account.
This will come in handy as you can have a separate browsing profile for work and personal use, on the same device.
