Working online has become the new normal today with most companies working from home.
In fact, a number of companies have announced that it will keep working from home indefinitely.
Chrome OS is for the cloud-based applications.
As the enterprise use cases are comparatively complex, Google introduced a slew of features to help IT distribute machines using Chrome OS.
Companies have been warming up to the idea of using cloud since the last few years.
However, this pandemic has hastened things a lot.
As the distributive and productive workforce are mostly working from home, companies today are moving significantly faster, warming up to the idea of taking everything to cloud.
What is Google Chrome OS?
Google Chrome OS is cloud-first OS designed for your enterprise.
Offering secure access to the cloud-based tools, Chrome OS is secure, mobile as well as easily manageable.
Features of Chrome OS
The group product manager of Google, Cyrus Mistry pointed out, they want to make the implementation of Chrome OS easier for IT. This is the prime reason behind the recently introduced slew of features.
Let us take a look at the latest features of Chrome OS now.
Free Readiness Tool: This tool is added chiefly for the starters.
Some applications are ready to be run on Chrome OS, while some are not.
It is very difficult for the IT team to differentiate or rather, guess the applications that can run on Chrome OS.
The free readiness tool addresses this concern by issuing the report in three different colours, green, yellow and red.
Green: Good to go
Yellow: Can go probably
Red: Not ready to go.
Parallel for Chrome OS: The companies that use Windows applications but cannot run them on Chrome OS will be benefited through this feature.
These Windows applications will be operating in Windows in a VM or a virtual machine.
Mistry points out that the companies must use the high-end Chromebooks to access this feature.
However, for the companies using critical Windows applications, this is one of the best ways to extend Chromebook usage.
Zero Touch Distribution: This feature makes it very easy to start using the machines right after they are issued.
The manufacturers will be setting up the machine for the domain, abiding by the policies, settings, applications and certificates.
They are actually set up just as the office IT team does.
So, the user can just turn the system on and start using it.
Multiple Virtual Work Areas: To make life easy for IT, Google certified a new set of applications like Zoom and Salesforce to work on Chrome OS.
Google also announced their plan to enable several virtual work areas. You can toggle between them using drag and drop. It will also introduce group tabs and allow searching for tabs in Chrome browser. These features are not available yet, but expected to be ready in the coming months.
Well, though Google has been quite ahead before as well with its release of Chrome OS, the introduction of these features has further earned applause.
